All clients receive a consultation prior to treatment, during which you will be asked to give information about any medical conditions, medication or previous treatment. This will enable me to tailor the treatment to ensure that you gain the most benefit. You will then be asked to undress. I usually ask my clients to strip to their underwear and you are then asked to lie down on the couch before you are covered in towels to keep you warm. During the treatment, I usually play background music and you are welcome to chat to me or just relax in silence! Everyone has their own preference!
My clients vary from children right up to people in their 90s, showing that a huge range of people can benefit from massage! There are some cases when massage is contra-indicated, for example if the client has Cancer or Cardio-vascular disease. In these cases, the client should consult their doctor first. However, in general, anyone and everyone can benefit from massage. Prior to treatment, the client receives a consultation so any concerns may be discussed and the massage is tailored ensure that they receive the most benefit.
It varies from person to person. Clients usually feel relaxed and sometimes a bit sleepy! Indeed, it is not unusual for clients to fall asleep during a treatment! It is important, however, for clients to note that they may have symptoms such as headache or tiredness the day after a massage. This is known as the 'Healing crisis' and is a perfectly normal, healthy response by the body to the increase in circulation. It shows that your body is working to flush the toxins out of your body and for this reason, it is important to drink plenty of water after a massage to aid this process and reduce the likelihood of you experiencing these symptoms.
I don't claim to be able to “fix” or “cure” anyone, but in the majority of cases, massage will certainly help. Some clients may have injuries or conditions that may require more specialised treatment, in which case I will refer them to a sports and remedial therapist. I aim to treat my clients holistically, so, as well as providing massage treatment, I also try to advise on ways in which the client can help to improve their condition through simple lifestyle changes, for example, regular stretching exercises when working at a computer.
