My name is Sarah and I started Poolewe Massage Clinic in June 2008, upon completion of my diploma in Swedish Massage at The Highland School of Massage in Inverness. I became interested in becoming a massage therapist because I have experienced, first hand, the benefits that it can offer. I have had M.E (Myalgic Encaphylitis or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) since the age of 15. I began receiving massage treatment 2 years later and found that it was extremely helpful in easing the physical and emotional symptoms of my condition. Although I am still affected, I am now able to work part time and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
The majority of treatments are carried out at my premises in Poolewe and I also travel to do home visits in the surrounding area.
I am keen to increase awareness of the benefits that massage can offer and in July I held a “Feel Good” evening. This event was held at Poolewe Hotel and included talks and demonstrations from local complementary therapists, as well as people involved in healthy activities and food production. The event was a huge success and £120 was raised for Cancer Research UK. I hope to organise more events of this kind in the future.
I am a member of Athletes Angels, and we provide massage at sporting events such as the marathons. In November, I will start training towards a Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage.
